Meet The Team

HSI Level 2 Coach & BHSAI

I fell in love with ponies at the age of eight when our parents took us to the local riding school for lessons, and have never looked back since!!

I was lucky enough to have my own pony at the age of eleven and spent my entire childhood doing pony club activities, and show-jumping.

At the age of fifteen I did my work experience with racehorse trainer Bill Preece and totally fell in love with training and riding racehorses. Horse-racing was to be my career for the next twenty years and I’ve been lucky enough to spend so much time with some great people and horses.
During my racing career I ran numerous yards, and was assistant trainer to a couple of trainers. I also rode as an amateur over jumps, on the flat and in point-to-points.
Eventually racing brought me over to Ireland, and i seem to still be here!
After starting a family, it wasn’t realistic to be able to stay as assistant trainer in our racing yard so I decided to take the plunge and set up my own business, which I could work around our five children, (who luckily all love ponies and riding!) and that is where “Copper Beech Sport horses” came about. In my spare time as a seventeen year old I had studied for my BHS exams and attained my BHSAI  (teaching qualification)  so this was to stand to me after all those years and i started up and ran a successful riding school here for 6 years.
I trained with Denis Flannelly to get my HSI level 2 coaching qualification, and as myself and the children got more and more into the showjumping, and i was doing more private coaching, it became unrealistic to run the riding school too. We changed direction, and took on liveries and haven't looked back! We have a lovely bunch of clients here, some smashing horses, and we are all loving training, and competing our own horses/ponies
I am passionate about horses, I love training them and I love riding them. I also love watching the ones who have been well trained and are well ridden at any level, particularly now in show-jumping.

We are very lucky ourselves to get the help of great horsemen and coaches in Jack Doyle and Geoff Curran and the boys do the Leinster show-jumping training with Ian Fearon

Here at Copper Beech Stables, my main aim is that everyone enjoys the horses and riding as much as I do. We aim to have happy horses and clients, who we can bring the best out of.

Samantha has competed Showjumping up to Grand Prix level on both ponies and horses in the UK.

She is a huge part of our team here, she rides all the competition liveries and helps me bring on the young horses. She also does a lot of the coaching of our livery clients.

She has worked with horses all her life and ran her own yard so her experience and expertise is of huge value to us in the yard.

Rosalie is in charge of all the stable management. She does all the feeding and gets all 50 horses/ponies in and out of paddocks, changes rugs, and basically just runs everything on the ground! She is an invaluable member of the team and leaves me with nothing to worry about!

Eder and Leo  are our yard men and do all the mucking out, putting the horses on the walker, and all the background work to keep the horses in nice clean beds, with lots of haylage and keep our yard looking spotless!!
